Pre-budget expectations for the Education Sector from Brajesh Mishra, Coo, Co-founder, Varthana

Pre-budget Expectations from Varthana for the education sector

“The education sector has been the worst hit and the most neglected sector as far as the COVID impact is concerned. Those schools that have taken loans are still struggling to be on time with their EMIs. Relaxation of the NPA classification norms for the schools, continuing the restructuring under RBI COVID guidelines and emergency credit facilities (ECLGS) will help schools and NBFCs that fund schools a lot. The stress on schools can be expected to reduce only after enrolments increase in the upcoming academic year.”

Brajesh Mishra is the Co-founder and COO at Varthana

Brajesh Mishra is the Co-founder and COO at Varthana, a non-banking financial company (NBFC) headquartered in Bangalore, India dedicated to transforming affordable private schools in India. He firmly believes that the bottom up approach is the only way to address the issues of education in the country and hence it is critical to empower the school owners with the best resources available – access to credit, access to solution providers, access to a global network and access to ideas. His dream is to have Varthana play a pivotal role in the transformation of affordable education in the country.

Brajesh has close to two decades of experience in retail banking and financial services, having worked with one of the largest banks in the country – ICICI Bank. Before co-founding Varthana, Brajesh was a member of the founding team at another school finance company, the Hyderabad based ISFC. Brajesh also serves on the management committee of Catalysts for Social Action – a Pune based NGO that works for the cause of adoption and rehabilitation of the destitute child.
