International Women’s Day is commemorated to applaud the spirit of a woman’s economic, political, and social achievements. This day is dedicated to women to encourage them to adopt healthy lifestyle practices and lead a disease-free life. Like every year, this year too Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital celebrated with great fervour along with women from all walks of life.

Dr.Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO Of Wadia Hospital, said, “Women’s wellness is of prime importance. Women tend to juggle between household and professional responsibilities and are unable to focus on their well-being. Women should be aware of common health risks such as obesity, gynaecological problems such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), pregnancy issues, endometriosis, menstrual disorders, urinary tract infections (UTIs). Women often ignore their health and suffer in silence. To help women overcome their health issues, the hospital came up with this free check-up camp. Around 200 women were evaluated for basic health, gynaecological issues, BMI, weight, height, capillary blood glucose examination, diet, medical and surgical advice. The women were educated and counselled about taking care of their health. A blood donation camp was also conducted for doctor and paramedical staff who donated blood for new mothers and other needy patients. The aim is to educate women to prevent lifestyle diseases by opting for preventive health check-ups, and avoiding further health complications.”

“ Women should have enough access to quality healthcare and services. There should be a holistic approach to healthcare when it comes to women. It is important for women to start thinking about their health right away by prioritizing it. Women should make investments towards their health by staying on top of their health and making positive changes for a lifetime. Women should not hesitate to discuss healthcare problems in open. Regular screening will aid in early diagnosis and treatment. Women of every age group should follow a proper exercise routine, diet, and maintain an optimum weight to stay healthy,” said Dr. Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO of Wadia Hospital.

Rakhi Nair (name changed) “I congratulate and thank Wadia hospital for taking such an important initiative for us. This free check-up camp has helped us to understand our body in a better way and has motivated us to take utmost care of it. I am elated to participate in this camp and looking forward to more such great initiatives by the hospital for the welfare of society. The hospital is doing a wonderful job of creating awareness regarding women’s health. It is the need of the hour to extend support to this initiative and seek benefit from it,”

ENTOD Pharmaceuticals Launches Glaucoma Public Awareness Campaign, the ‘#TheGLOProject’, around the Country

March, 2022, India – ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, one of the leading International and researched-based pharmaceutical companies specialising in ophthalmic, ENT & Dermatology medicines has launched a glaucoma public awareness campaign to be conducted in different parts of the country.

The primary objective of #TheGLOProject is to create awareness about glaucoma, encourage people to have regular eye check-ups (including optic nerve examinations) and improve medical compliance. Raising awareness about glaucoma is crucial in India where it is the leading cause of irreversible blindness with at least 12 million people affected and almost 1.2 million people blind from the disease.

Executive Director of ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, Mr Nikkhil K Masurkar said “Studies reveal that nearly 11.2 million people above 40 years of age are affected with glaucoma in India. Even small children are being affected with glaucoma which has become very common therefore, creating awareness is the key to the prevention of this disease. Almost 75 per cent of vision loss can be prevented or cured, so it’s certainly an area where initiatives like this can have a strong impact where it is needed the most. We are excited to collaborate with glaucoma specialists from around India to create a real impact on our shared goal of reducing the high burden of irreversible blindness in the country. ENTOD has always been committed to finding and providing effective solutions for patients suffering from eye diseases. The typical barriers that we face on the ground include a lack of awareness, inadequate human resources and limited access to medical treatments. This partnership would be an example of the vital associations that are required to fight avoidable eye blindness and deliver better services at the community level.”

Ahead of the World Glaucoma Week, Entod would not only disseminate information on glaucoma to the masses through news media but screen people, conduct awareness talks with specialists to support India’s eye care strategies.

“Glaucoma leads to gradual, painless vision loss with increased eye pressure. People over the age of 40 are significantly at risk especially those with diabetes, inflammations, injury, myopia, congenital eye disorders, positive family history and more. The concerning part is that some studies have revealed that only 50 per cent of people with glaucoma have had an eye examination. Therefore, it is important to raise awareness at the community level. We are keen to make a real difference for people with Glaucoma. Through this project, we hope that expertise and knowledge combined with the passion for science and solutions will have a real impact on our shared goal of reducing the high burden of irreversible blindness in the country,” said Mrs. Anjula Masurkar, Clinical Director, ENTOD Pharmaceuticals.

“Glaucoma happens to be the second leading cause of blindness and the top cause of irreversible blindness in the world. As there are very few symptoms in the earlier stages of this disease, most people remain unaware till the time they lose significant amount of vision. Early diagnosis can reduce progression of the disease and prevent blindness. Since staying informed is the first key step to tackle glaucoma, there is a greater need to create public awareness on the importance of periodic screening. A positive family history has also been proven to be a strong risk factor for glaucoma. Strengthening family screening and bringing awareness in families and communities can help reduce blindness due to glaucoma. We are happy to partner with ENTOD pharmaceuticals to heighten public awareness of glaucoma which we believe will create a positive impact and emphasise the importance of regular eye check-ups for preventing glaucoma-associated blindness,” said Dr. P. VENKATA RATNAM Professor of Ophthalmology , Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Hyderabad.

World Kidney Day

Greater Risks of Kidney Disease if you have Diabetes and High Blood Pressure says health experts on World Kidney Day

New Delhi, 11th March 2022: Under its Illness to Wellness Campaign, ASSOCHAM, an apex body, organized ”Kidney Care: Preventive and Curative Actions” on the eve of World Kidney Day with the objective of spreading awareness about kidney diseases. Kidney diseases are silent killers, which can largely affect your quality of life. There are several ways to reduce the risk of developing kidney disease.

“Kidney disease is mostly silent and thus neglected and not handled properly,” said Dr. Manju Aggarwal, Director and Head, Department of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation, Artemis Health Institute. She went on to say that kidney disease is avoidable and that high-risk populations, such as those with diabetes and hypertension, should be educated and screened. Early detection and medical treatment can help to postpone the onset of severe renal failure.

She addressed the audience by saying ”Diagnosing renal illness can be a difficult experience for both the sufferer and those around them. It limits their capacity to engage in daily activities such as employment, travel, and socialising”. Patients with kidney disease, including those who require dialysis or transplantation, require additional assistance from society, patient groups, networks, government agencies and health insurance providers in the long run, she added.

Kidneys are very important organs that remove waste, control blood pressure, make haemoglobin, and maintain bone health, according to Dr. Rishit K. Harbada, Consultant Nephrologist, BSES MG Hospital, Andheri, S.R.V Hospital, Goregaon, Associate Consultant, Sir H.N Reliance, Foundation Hospital, Mumbai. He said, ”Symptoms or indicators of renal disease may not appear until 80 percent of your kidneys have been damaged”. As a result, early detection is critical. Controlling blood pressure, diabetes, eating properly, limiting alcohol intake, being active, avoiding over-the-counter drugs, painkillers, and regular follow-up are all critical for kidney health sharing precautionary measures in the session.

Dr. Siddharth Vinod Lakhani, Consultant Nephrologist & Transplant Physician, Lakhani Kidney Clinic, Fortis Raheja Hospital, Global Hospital, Somaiya Hospital, Kohinoor Hospital, SRV Hospital, Zynova or Shalby Group of Hospitals, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to ASSOCHAM for organising this enlightening and interactive session. “Prevention is better than cure,” Dr. Lakhani stated emphatically. “Let us work together to avoid and battle chronic renal disease”, he said.

Dr. Rajesh Kesari, Founder and Director, Total Care Control, Delhi–NCR, outlined his concern of the rising cases of kidney diseases in the nation and said, ”kidney disease has long been regarded as the most neglected chronic disorder”. A variety of communicable and non-communicable diseases can cause kidney problems, and many patients with kidney disease do not have access to treatment. Renal disorders’ causes, consequences, and costs have implications for public health policy in all countries, as well as the problems that lie ahead.

Dermatologists advise against sharing nail clippers due to the risk of Germs transmission

New Delhi, 10th March 2022: As the threat of Covid declines, Problems associated with covid are on the rise. According to doctors, skin rashes and other ailments have become more common in the past few months. Exacerbation of psoriasis has been reported, and people have developed psoriasis-like disorders following Covid infection or even the Covid vaccine in some cases. It has also been observed that any autoimmune illness, such as vitiligo or psoriasis, may worsen following a Covid infection. Pityriasis rosea, a type of skin allergy, is also quite common after infection with coronavirus. A viral infection of the skin known as Herpes Zoster has also been documented in people infected with Covid. Skin infections have increased drastically mainly related to nail & hand hygiene, PPE and cutaneous manifestations of Covid-19. In addition, women are more likely to experience post-Covid skin problems, which are especially common among senior persons and pregnant women.

Skin injuries have also been documented as a result of the use of goggles, gloves, masks, and face shields. Hand eczema or dermatitis as a result of excessive use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, gloves, or other protective measures has grown increasingly common in recent months. Some persons have also reported Covid digits, which are painful chilblain-like spots on their fingers and toes. To avoid such skin problems, dermatologists advise patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle and proper hygiene. Nail cleanliness is critical for preventing infections. It all starts with not sharing nail clippers and properly disinfecting them before and after usage.

“Nails are often a breeding ground for hazardous microorganisms. These bacteria enter our bodies through our hands since most of the people in India eat with their bare hands. As a result, nail care is critical, and hand hygiene is inadequate without it. Apart from washing hands thoroughly, it is important to clean and trim the fingernails as it can harbor dirt, bacteria and transfer infections including fungal. The majority of people are fine with sharing nail clippers. However, this is a rather unsanitary practice. Germs, bacteria, and viruses abound in nails, and sharing nail clippers is the same as exchanging those microbes. Always sterilize your own nail clipper before and after use. Avoid sharing the use of nail clippers as it can easily spread any Infection if not cleaned, sterilized properly,” says Dr. Sonali Chaudhary, Integrative and Cosmetic Dermatologist, Delhi.

Dr. Sonali recommends that, in addition to not sharing nail clippers, they be washed in lukewarm water and wiped with a soft cloth. Many nail clipper manufacturers have designed new products keeping in mind the changing needs of the user. Take, for example, KAI India, a leading Japanese razor, and nail clipper maker. They just unveiled a new collection of nail clippers designed especially to keep infections at bay. They are made entirely of stainless steel with no chromium coating, which aids in the avoidance of skin infections and allergies. KAI India has also produced a bespoke product for the elderly that has unique features such as a magnifying lens and an LED light to assist them in clearly seeing the nails during cutting. There are also separate hand and foot nail cutters to accommodate the differing needs of the two. The nail clippers also have features such as flat clinch and slant blades, a nail tray, and a grim remover to keep infections at bay.

“We’ve witnessed an upsurge in nail clipper sales since Covid struck. A detailed consumer survey was carried out before identifying the need for a nail tray to prevent nails from spilling, a nail filer picks to easily remove hidden germs & dirt under nails and 100% stainless steel blades to prevent rusting. KAI always believes in keeping high health standards during production and also for its users. Following this ethos, we have never used chromium or other sub-quality or hazardous coating available in cheap alternative brands in the market. KAI has a lineup of more than 400 types of nail clippers by continuing to develop products according to the needs of different users, depending on the shapes and generation of their nails,” says Mr. Rajesh U. Pandya, Managing Director, KAI India.

Consumer behavior has changed drastically during the pandemic. As per the survey done by KAI India, during the pandemic, women revealed that due to social distancing, safety, and hygiene norms, they preferred manicure at home overdoing at the salons. This change has increased the popularity of nail clippers and manicure tools as a reliable and safe mode to remove germs and dirt that also bring smooth & moist skin.

KAI India recently organized an awareness drive in Kendriya Vidyalaya 2, New Delhi, with the goal of raising hand hygiene knowledge among children and encouraging them to keep their nails short and clean. In addition, as part of a health education campaign, KAI provided over 1500 nail clipper samples to students.

“KAI India is taking proactive measures at hospitals by organizing nail hygiene awareness drives and educating patients about the dangers of poor hand and nail hygiene. In its efforts to build a strong nation, KAI has donated nail clippers as needed to raise awareness of the importance of nail hygiene among children and adults,” says Mr. Hitesh Singla, Marketing Head, Kai India

KAI India also collaborates with IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) to raise farmer awareness about nail hygiene. The KAI India team visited rural area and distributed nail clippers to the farmers, raising awareness about nail hygiene and the significance of nail care during Covid and beyond for a healthy life.

Sakra World Hospital announces Intra-Dialysis Rehab Exercise Program on World Kidney Day

Sakra World Hospital announces Intra-Dialysis Rehab Exercise Program on World Kidney Day

Bengaluru, March 10, 2022 – Sakra World Hospital, a premier healthcare organization in India that uses cutting-edge Japanese technology to provide ground-breaking healthcare, announced the launch of Intra-Dialysis Rehab Exercise Program on the occasion of World Kidney Day 2022.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is predominantly rising and has become a priority public health problem. The progression of CKD causes functional limitation, severe disability and poor quality of life. Anemia, malnutrition, lower muscle strength, metabolic disturbances result in reduction of exercise tolerance, independence and the ability to perform activities of daily living. In such cases, hemodialysis, a procedure that filters wastes and water from the kidney, thereby enhancing the functioning process of the kidneys, helps. However, patients receiving hemodialysis have a considerably lower exercise tolerance, functional capacity, and more muscle wasting than healthy subjects or patients with less severe CKD. Exercise training or comprehensive multi-dimensional strategy and goal-oriented intervention should be provided in end stage kidney disease/ dialysis patients.

Sakra World Hospital has taken the initiative to offer various intradialytic exercise programs, such as aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, combined aerobic and resistance exercise, and passive exercise including electrical stimulation especially developed for hemodialysis patients. rate. These intradialytic exercises can be safely done in the first two hours of dialysis without cardiac decompensation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yuichi Nagano, Managing Director Sakra World Hospital, “Renal health is important and Sakra World Hospital has always been ahead of the curve by innovating and implementing programs like kidney rehabilitation and maintenance. I am sure that with this Intradialytic Exercise Program, our patients will be able to maintain their functional capacity well and tolerate exercise programs to maintain good health.”

Commenting on kidney health, Dr Sushma Rani Raju, Senior Consultant & Head, Nephrology, Sakra World Hospital said, “On the occasion of World Kidney Day, it gives me great pleasure to announce the Intradialytic Exercise Program for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and dialysis. As a team we strongly believe and agree this will improve the functional abilities and enhance the overall well-being of the CKD and dialysis population”.

Speaking on the benefits of Renal Rehabilitation, Dr Maheshwarappa, Senior Consultant & HOD Sakra Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences said, “Rehabilitation is an important part of maintaining kidney health, and we are happy to announce the inauguration of Sakra World Hospital’s intra-dialysis Rehab Exercise Program. Regular exercising can result in greater quality of life, physical functioning, and better quality of sleep. It will additionally assist in feeling better and stronger. It also prevents risk factors for kidney disease, like type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiac conditions.”

NephroPlus Summit Proffers Integrated Solutions to Kidney Care

Bengaluru, 10th March 2022: NephroPlus, India’s largest dialysis care network, on the occasion of World Kidney Day, convened a first-of-its-kind virtual summit on 6th March 2022, bringing together more than 700 proponents for Kidney Health & Dialysis Care in partnership with leading nephrologists, industry experts, mental health advocates, and clinical nutritionists to provide valuable data and experiential knowledge-sharing for the renal community. The burden of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and risk factors like hypertension and diabetes are substantial and provide a solid rationale to share knowledge, inspire action and empower dialysis patients, their families, and care professionals.

The summit focussed on the importance of kidney health literacy and quality improvement initiatives in renal care by implementing practices to retard the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). The rich, engaging discussions addressed some of the areas of improvement in CKD care such as patient education, CKD management, and quality improvement, in addition to the significance of proper diet and nutrition, mental health and therapy, as well as emotional and social support from families, care partners and the community for better patient health outcomes.

Dr. Vivekanand Jha, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board at NephroPlus and immediate past President of the International Society of Nephrology, highlighted the concept of interdisciplinary care in kidney disease. This patient-centric approach has been associated with improved health outcomes and enlightened the attendees with the hopeful message that “although kidney diseases are common and harmful, they are treatable.” His message heralded a high-level conversation among the best clinical minds in the industry on meaningful ways to improve morbidity and mortality for patients with CKD. Dr. Jha also apprised the audience on the evolving “Chronic Care Model,” a multi-level framework that focuses on improving care for patients with chronic diseases. It provides a holistic approach in identifying facilitators of better outcomes for individuals with chronic conditions in primary care settings and also provides substantial support to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients

Another finding revealed at the summit was that there are 2.2 lakh, new patients of ESRD, every year, creating an annual demand for 3.4 Crore dialysis as the available 4,950 centers and infrastructure struggle to keep up with increasing demand. Speakers like Dr. Shankar Prasad N, Professor, and Head of the Department of Nephrology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal advocated a third option separate from dialysis and kidney transplant.

“Conservative Kidney Management (CKM) is something that many can consider as a third option. Dialysis has limitations and adverse effects, while kidney replacement is costly. With CKM, you can provide much-needed care to large populations. This is not for everyone, though, but patients who have a low tolerance to dialysis. Aged people and those whose death in one year won’t be a surprise

To family members can be placed on CKM. It doesn’t include dialysis and is a patient-centric approach that aims at improving the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease,” he said.

The topic of vascular access was covered by Dr. Sundar Sankaran, Scientific Chairperson at the Summit & Head – International Transplant Services and Adjunct Prof. of Nephrology at Manipal Hospitals, Bengaluru, said: “As a method, a good vascular access enables effective removal of chemicals and fluid from the bloodstream.” He chaired two lectures around vascular access through which knowledge on how accesses can be improved was elaborately discussed.

On his part, Dr. Suresh Sankar, NephroPlus Senior Vice President, Clinical Affairs, attempted a demystification of the role of social media in renal care. “We must do more to teach people how to separate facts from fiction. Social media can be a useful tool if we take advantage of it. Still, we must also be careful to check the massive misinformation by unscrupulous people on the subject,” he said.

Mr. Kamal D Shah, NephroPlus Co-Founder, who participated in the introductory discussion as part of an interdisciplinary team, was vocal about the management of ESKD and how changes to conventional approaches can bring about better results. “ESKD is becoming increasingly prevalent, and as professionals, we must rise to the occasion by developing cost-effective, sustainable, and accessible solutions to help dialysis patients,” he stressed.

The summit was a restatement of NephroPlus’ commitment to showing how renal patients can be better cared for based on their peculiar situations.
