A Melodious Soiree to Celebrate the Centennial of the Legendary Talat Mahmood

Delhi witnessed an evening that enthralled music lovers and history buffs alike on Monday, the 15th of July, 2024, at the Kamani Auditorium. Media net Works organised this captivating evening celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary Talat Mahmood in esteemed collaboration with Jashn-E-Talat by Sahar Zaman.

The unforgettable event transported audiences through a journey of soulful music, insightful literature, and graceful dance, all woven together in homage to the golden era of Indian music, as it promised to.

The evening was illuminated by the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest Shri Najeeb Jung, former Lt Governor, Delhi. His gracious presence undoubtedly elevated the stature of this momentous occasion.

The evening left the audience awestruck by a meticulously curated programme and opened with a heart-warming inauguration ceremony followed by a soulful rendition of Talat Mahmood’s timeless classics by the mellifluous vocalist, Amrish Mishra.

This soulful serenade was followed by a captivating interlude. Acclaimed author and grand-niece of Talat Mahmood, Sahar Zaman took the stage for an intriguing book talk, offering insightful glimpses into the life and legacy of Talat Mahmood. The evening culminated in a mesmerizing dance performance by the Moving Souls, their graceful choreography capturing the very essence of the era.

Bringing forth a prestigious event of this stature, Sudesh Chawla, expressed her fervent enthusiasm as, “We are incredibly honored to present this unique tribute to the maestro Talat Mahmood. His voice continues to resonate through the ages, and we are extremely grateful to God for helping us make this event a fitting commemoration of his extraordinary contribution to Indian music.”

Honorable Chief Guest, Shri Najeeb Jung shared his emotions as, “I was electrified at the Media net Works Musical Evening organised by Mrs. Sudesh Chawla in association with Jashn-e-Talat. Songs and ghazals of the ‘King of Ghazals’ – Talat Mahmood ji, sung by Amrish Mishra enchanted the audience to give him a well deserved Standing ovation. The program brought Talat to life.”

While discussing her book ‘Talat Mahmood: The Definitive Biography’, with Jainendra Singh, the owner of a gifted voice and the presenter of the show, Sahar Zaman said, “My grandfather’s music has been the soundtrack to my life. It is a privilege to present little anecdotes from the life of a man behind the golden voice.”

Ghazal Singer Amrish Mishra emoted, “Talat Mahmood Ji’s voice has captivated audiences for generations. My earliest memories of Talat sahab songs are of my father listening to and humming Talat Songs such as ‘Zindagi dene waale sun’, ‘Tasveer banaata hoon. It’s an honor to pay tribute to his legacy by singing these beloved songs for a whole new generation of listeners.”

Lead Dancer Ravi Rastogi of Moving Souls shared, “Honored to be part of an evening dedicated to one of my favourites and a maestro of all times. Hoping to do justice to his legacy.”
