From dream to reality

It is not about acting, it is about giving art of entertainment to humanity. Catering to this thought Mr. Ayan Bose, like every aspiring actor in this realm of Bengali films, sprouted into motion pictures via short films and by being an active practitioner of theater from his early days. Growing amidst literature composed by Rabindranath Tagore, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, and other eminent writers of Bengal, Ayan learned how to take a place to present him in a world of imagination. But he wanted to move beyond the words and give life to the characters he once read in his favorite novels. With this utmost urge to relive the moments of his favorite characters, Ayan was bewildered by the concept of assimilating literature and motion pictures. He wanted to start off immediately and made his appearance in several small-budget films.

Mr. Ayan Bose,

Despite the struggle, he performed in “Ajker Netaji”, “Mahalaya”, “Access Granted”, “Farewell” directed by Pritam Dutta earned a fair bit of recognition and this served as a substantial source of motivation for Ayan. However the hustle was not restricted to this, he tried his luck in several production houses but was vehemently rejected by the authorities. At this point, it felt as if his dreams of collaborating literature with films were far from reality. But Ayan kept on trying despite these setbacks and being a film buff as he was highly inspired by superstar Deepak Adhikari (Dev). He wished to replicate the superstars’ screen presence and waited for the perfect opportunity. As a treat to his patience and hard work, Ayan debuted in the world of Tollywood cinema. His battle is impossible to express in words, but it can be witnessed in his upcoming big-screen film.

Unconventional dialysis access poses life threatening risk for dialysis patients

Panipat: With the significant rise in the incidences of renal failure, those requiring hemodialysis have increased in recent times. Pertaining to the fact that, on occasions, the dialysis access may stop working well or cease working altogether attributing to a narrowing or blockage (clot) of one or more of the blood vessels in the fistula or graft. When these dialysis access complications occur, it is essential that the vascular access is working correctly and can maintain adequate blood flow to and from the haemodialysis machine during the treatment for normal dialysing.

In order to raise awareness among dialysis patients about the precautions to be taken care of during and post dialysis session, to avoid vascular access complications during dialysis, doctors from Max Hospital Shalimar Bagh organised a public session today. The session was orated by Dr. Achintya Sharma, Consultant & In-charge, Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.

Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh also runs its weekly OPD services for Nephrology and kidney transplant medicine at Haiderabadi Hospital, where Dr Manoj Arora Principal Consultant & Unit Head, visits for consultations. While the vascular surgeons and nephrologists work in tandem as a team, these exclusive OPD services will be a boon for the patients in the region, to avail access to expert opinion and consultations. With improved connectivity and reduced geographical barriers, complicated cases of dialysis patients can be referred to Max Hospital Shalimar Bagh.

The most common complications associated with patients undergoing dialysis include AV dialysis access failure, blocked or fluctuating flow rate (inflow and outflow of the blood), ruptured fistula causing blood loss, cephalic vein stenosis, formation of pseudoaneurysm, or abscess can be life-threatening with unstable vital signs, and any delay in operation can significantly enhance the chances of morbidity and mortality.

With the recent advancements made in the field of endovascular intervention techniques, patients with a multitude of ailments undergoing dialysis can be treated, so that the patients have a better quality of life.

“Sometimes, however, the blood flow rate through your access is inadequate due to a narrowing of a blood vessel in the fistula or graft, or it may suddenly stop working altogether due to cephalic artery stenosis, ruptured fistula, or blocked inflow in the arteries. If a patient has a ruptured fistula, we ligate it. AV Graft Ligation is frequently an emergency procedure requiring immediate closure. While Cephalic vein stenosis is also a common cause of AV dialysis access failure, are most of the time difficult to treat with venoplasty. In such cases a procedure known as angioplasty and ballooning is required to reopen the access and continue receiving dialysis treatment.” Said Dr Achintya Sharma.

The team at Max Hospital Shalimar Bagh is enriched with surgeons with significant experience with all aspects of treating a patient pertaining to all types of vascular conditions including diagnostics, medical treatment, reconstructive vascular, surgical and endovascular techniques. With their advanced knowledge and skills, patients are provided with comprehensive care as per their needs. The vascular surgery team is well experienced in performing all kinds of fistula work as in unconventional access, Thigh – loop graft, basilic & Brachial vein transposition, and is a one-stop solution with centre of excellence where all CKD patients are well taken care of, who multiple AV access failure requiring lifesaving dialysis access.

Many patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis are required to create an Arteriovenous Fistula (AV Fistula) which acts as a lifeline in filtering their blood. Thus, it is imperative that the fistula or graft is working properly, and in any case of ineffective functioning, the doctors will perform a fistulogram, which is an imaging technique to visualize the severity and location of any narrowing/blockage in the fistula.

Timely intervention helps in better management of vascular condition and the advancements made in vascular procedures are getting better with time. this is a substantial step taken by Max Healthcare towards ensuring that such patients in the region have easy and speedy access to quality healthcare services.

Which are the best masks to protect from Omicron Virus?

-Joy Chatterjee, General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Mankind Pharma

As the Omicron variant is on the steady rise, masks are one of the best ways that protect ourselves and others against the COVID-19 virus. In the market, there are various options available. In recent times, doctors and healthcare experts have suggested wearing a mask that protects you well from the particles, even with the tiny droplets.

However, with time, people are revisiting the discussion around the most effective masks to curtail the spread of the Omicron virus, which is highly contagious than the Delta variant. With the onset of the new omicron variant, a lot of discussions have happened around which is the effective mask against the virus.

As per the efficiency of the masks, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recommends N95 masks, as they provide high filtration with 95% efficiency or more against the particulate aerosols. Though it can filter minute particles, properly scrutinize the masks before purchase. Do not opt for masks with vents or valves as they do not filter the exhaled air. As recommended by health experts, N95 masks can be reused by general people (not healthcare) and should be kept in a closed paper bag after wearing it to prevent contamination.

Out of the varieties available, cloth masks are considered the least effective in protecting against the virus. It comes with a pore size of 80-500 micrometers, which is much larger as compared to the 0.12 micrometer coronavirus. While some people still opt for cloth masks, experts suggest that they are not quite effective against filtering particles. Hence, in terms of better protection, surgical masks rank higher than cloth masks. The triple-layered mask works better in keeping the virus at bay. The major challenge in surgical masks is the fitting. The mask comes in a universal size, and in many people they are not well fitted properly, which increases the risks of small particles seeping in through the gaps.

As per the advice from healthcare experts and physicians, it is advised to choose N95 masks that help keep the variant at bay when compared to cloth and other masks. However, it must be noted that Surgical masks are still a better choice with regards to cloth masks. But if your masks are not maintained properly then the entire benefit of the masks goes for a toss. Most of the time people are not aware of the limitations. Surgical masks are one-time use masks, and it is foremost important to discard them after 8 hours of use; in case the mask becomes wet or soiled before 8 hours then it must be disposed of immediately. Similarly, the cloth masks must be washed properly using disinfectants.

In addition to the selection of masks, it is pertinent to follow WHO guidelines to use the masks for avoiding any chances of contracting the disease. While wearing the mask the nose must be covered properly. It should go over the bridge of the nose and cover the chin to avoid any escape or entry of contaminated air. Before wearing a mask make sure to clean hands with alcohol-based sanitisers or wash hands with soap and water. And while removing the mask, never touch it from the front, always remove it from behind. Discard it off immediately into the bin and clean hands with sanitizer or soap and water. Avoid touching your face, nose, or mouth without cleaning your hands.

Though omicron cases are surging unchecked, incorporating certain hygienic practices into lives and using the mask with proper care can substantially help in keeping the virus at bay.

Drone Delivery sector pins high hopes on the upcoming union budget 2022

By Swapnik Jakkampudi, Co-founder, Skye Air Mobility

2021 has been a promising year for UAVs as it created an optimistic environment with the introduction of new drones rules and PLI scheme.

What’s noteworthy is that the industry picked pace when many industries, from hospitality & tourism to retail came to a standstill and job losses were rampant. Tiding over all odds, Drone sector is one such sector that has been consistently picking up which is a positive sign for the growth and economy picking up.

Many companies including Skye Air in India have signed new deals to kick off large-scale, commercial B2B drone operations across all sectors including delivery.

As most of the companies operating in this sector primarily comprise of start ups, they are looking up to the government to simplify policies and provide better support that would help them scale up the delivery sector with higher adoption via drones and leverage the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for boosting domestic manufacturing.

So the government needs to realise that the drone delivery Industry in India is still at a nascent stage and small and mostly run by small-size start-ups, therefore, the govt. should announce special Drone Fund, reduction in GST on drone services, R&D grants, tax exemptions, import and export benefits and infrastructure development grants for start-ups and SMEs to help the domestic industry grow faster than the global counterparts and serve not only the domestic market but the global market.

Also one of the important aspects for faster adoption of this technology is that volumes are the need of the hour to bring down the costs. The Government should look into promoting the aspects and benefits of drone deliveries in the private ecommerce and logistics sector so as to boost faster adoption thus resulting in reduction of costs.

Moreover, the government should lay down clear export and import policies which are in favour of the sector to keep with the momentum and tap on global opportunities. We were recently at the Dubai Air Show and could find numerous opportunities for export of products and drone delivery services in the UAE. The time is now for India to consider boosting exports of drones and delivery services across the globe.

Besides, with the pandemic one thing is clear that drones are the need of today. The pandemic has pushed for digitisation. With this digital shift there is immense opportunity for the drone industry to flourish and grow in the years to come.

Businesses across all verticals have started realising the upsides which are the cost efficiency, time saving and technological advancements that drones can weave into a business.

Application of drones is already amplifying across various sectors: delivery, construction, education, law enforcement, media and entertainment, precision agriculture, surveying and mapping, and inspection and monitoring.

Today, both enterprises and the government are realising the economic and social opportunities and sustainability that UAVs can offer. The faster adoption of UAVs is therefore critical to realise the potential of this technology.

And there is no doubt that this will also turn the drone segment into a generator of employment and economic growth primarily owing to its wide scope, flexibility, and ease of use, particularly in the country’s far-flung and remote areas.

So the market has great potential and will require trained professionals to realise the aim of making India the global drone hub by 2030.

The sector overall is extremely hopeful with the upcoming Budget 2022. Given more tax and non-tax incentives to the UAV sector it will be a game changer even for the allied industries and the economy as a whole. As Skye Air, we look forward to the government to take more initiatives towards promoting drone delivery.
