Dr. Kavita Nagpal, VP-Academics, North Zone, ORCHIDS The International Schools.

‘This year marked the first one to enable the facilitation of regular offline classes post-covid. Despite the challenges coupled with a plethora of problems initiated by COVID-19, the emergence of new opportunities has been on the horizon, and doors to innovation in the education sector have become wide open. The introduction of skill-based curriculums and programs, as opposed to subject-oriented learning, brought about a significant change in the education scenario. The schools also devised new programs to help the children get familiarized with the changes, ensuring a smooth transition from online to the offline medium during this post-pandemic academic season.

Orchids have implemented and demonstrated a holistic approach to learning ensuring to pique students’ interest in coming back to school and participating in these programs for their overall growth. OIS has introduced 5 unique programs in its curricula such as horticulture, astronomy, public speaking, financial literacy, and robotics. These subjects are also part of NEP (National Education Policy) 2022, introduced by the ministry of education, Govt. of India. Keeping in mind the shift from online to offline classes, the school predicted that it will have a huge mental impact on the kids, and hence OIS introduced the SOCH wing, a team of mental health counselors, where all the OIS branches will have at least one student counselor to keep a regular check on their mental health, especially students with special needs. The Get Fit program introduced by Orchids is yet another example that guides students for a healthy physique.

OIS has mapped mental, social, and emotional learning to be included as the key focus in the coming years. Technology will be utilized to the utmost capacity – virtual and augmented reality, and gamification has already taken a prominent place in the system. As skill-based education gains an acceleration in momentum, STEAM-based learning will see a significant push in the education sector over the coming years. With NEP coming into its foray, the curriculum will see major changes across schools as experiential learning gains more popularity. Making learning enjoyable will be the core intent behind programs to be introduced by schools in the near future. A value-based education will be the norm going forward.’

From Investing ₹900 In A Startup To Funding Multiple Companies Across Industries, Ravinder Bharti’s Journey In The Corporate World

Ravinder, founder of Public Media Solution

The entrepreneur aims to nurture new companies built by passionate entrepreneurs

Adequate funding is one of the major issues faced by entrepreneurs in India. No matter how good an idea is, passionate entrepreneurs often get stuck in the funding phases. Many entrepreneurs find it difficult to cross this barrier and end up sacrificing their dreams. Ravinder Bharti (Ravi) sees the struggles of such entrepreneurs and helps them nurture their dreams. Once a struggling aspirant, Ravinder Bharti is now an active investor in multiple startups and SMEs across different industries. Along with the business idea and the plan an entrepreneur has in mind, he banks on the pure passion and dedication they have to build a company of their own. This is because he can relate to the journey of a new entrepreneur dreaming of making it big.

Ravinder Bharti is the founder and CEO of Public Media Solution, a popular marketing and PR agency. While the company’s services are known to businessmen around the world, not many know that Ravi started his first venture by investing a sum of ₹900. Being a Computer
Engineer by profession, he had hardly any knowledge about how to establish and run a company.

Being a young and passionate entrepreneur in his late twenties, Ravi was driven purely by his passion and knowledge about the industry. Despite his engineering background, he acquired enough knowledge about marketing and brand-building by working in the industry and observing the digital shift in the country. Instead of waiting for the right opportunity, he decided to create an opportunity for himself by investing whatever little he could in taking his first step.

Without an office, a client base, or prior experience, Ravi turned his ₹900 into a booming enterprise that spans multiple countries. Looking back at his journey, he realizes how important it is for a young entrepreneur to have someone who trusts them financially and morally. This inspired him to invest in companies having the potential to grow and diversify.

Ravi believes that India will witness a plethora of new startups if entrepreneurs find the right investors. He says, “We are a land of ideas and stories. There is no lack of passion in the budding entrepreneurs of the country. All they need is a support system that holds their hands and guides them through the financial difficulties of setting up their businesses. Since I have become capable of contributing to the blooming startup culture in the country, I have done my best to identify companies that can work wonders with the right investment. At the end of the day, this is all an entrepreneur needs to thrive!”

Alarming Rise of Spinal Problems in India: Minimally Invasive Surgery to Deal With

The changing lifestyle has increased spine-related problems across the world, and in India, it is on the alarming rise mainly due to unhealthy lifestyles, bad postures and sedentary jobs, stressful work-flow, and environmental degradation. The common problem majority of Indian face is – back pain because a sedentary lifestyle leads to weak muscles and ligaments, which do not support the back appropriately and, thus, predispose people to back pain. Spine infections, like tubercular infections, are much more common in India.

“The emerging spine-related problems in India may be due to an overall reduced physical activity of the society, but the inappropriate living conditions of a large segment of the population also contribute to it. A few pilot studies have suggested that 60 per cent of the Indian population will have a significant episode of spine-related problems at some point in their lives. But a healthy spine plays a significant role in healthy living. There are some spine-related problems where other treatment options do not work, and surgery is left as a lone treatment option. In such a situation, the procedure of Micro Endoscopy Spine (MES) surgery comes into play, putting the patient at ease,” Dr Manish Vaish, Director of Neurosurgery at Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi.

For spine-related disorders, Micro Endoscopic Spine Surgery (MES) also called Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) has proven to be a boon for patients because, in this surgery, surgeons use a variety of techniques to operate with maximally preserving the anatomy and minimal insult to the surrounding structures than with open surgery. Usually, it is safer than open surgery and allows the patient to recover faster and heal with less pain and wound.

Adding further Dr Manish Vaish said, “Micro Endoscopy Spine (MES) or Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) surgeries are setting new remedial paradigms to mitigate the sufferings of the patients struggling with spine-related disorders. The novel method devises an improved surgical precision that cuts down on blood loss besides lessening risks and entailing faster recovery ensuring healthy living. Minimally Invasive Surgery usually requires a short hospital stay. This offers dual advantages in terms of money and time and above all back to work or back with life.”

Of many spine-related problems, Spine TB, Spine tumour and Spine vascular malformations when reaching the advanced stage, need surgical treatments. Two surgical options to fix this problem are available – open surgery and the less invasive procedure, called endovascular repair. The choice of repair can depend on the size and location of the aneurysm. Nowadays, there is an increasing trend of spine tuberculosis, Spine tumours and Spine vascular malformations in the country. The symptoms of spinal tuberculosis are localized back pain, painful movements, fever, a hump in the back, excessive weight loss, and in worst cases, weakness of hands or legs. Likewise, in a Spine tumour, there is back pain, often radiating to other parts of your body, feeling less sensitive to pain, heat and cold, and loss of bowel or bladder function. And in Spine vascular malformations, there are balance or coordination problems, difficulty walking or climbing stairs, dizziness and headache.

“Spine-related diseases like Cervical Spondylosis, Arteries in brain tumours, Backache pain, Spine TB and Aneurysm commonly occur. However, most of them like Brain tumours, Spine TB and Brain aneurysms in their advanced stage need surgical treatments, where Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) has been very successful as it helps fast recovery post-surgery. Bone and joint tuberculosis account for up to 35% cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis,” Dr. Yashpal Singh Bundela, Senior Consultant, Brain and Spine Ppl, New Delhi.

Adding further on how Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) has been turning feasible and successful Dr Bundela added, “Like many spine-related problems, the prevalence of osteoporosis is also very high. It is among the highest in the world and no exact cause has been found for this so far. And the Asian population as such is predisposed to this. The most common surgical techniques used for osteoporosis are vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. And both are ‘Minimally Invasive Surgical’ procedures.”

Delay in the medical treatment of spin-related problems despite treatment if they need surgery to fix the problems, they mustn’t hesitate and go for the surgery at the earliest. Surgery involves drainage of the inflammation area and stabilization using bone grafts or implants. Sometimes, improper medicinal treatments may aggravate the problem by creating drug-resistant bacteria which often become very difficult to treat. This is where Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) emerges as proven therapy to help patients to deal with their spine-related problems.
