January 2025Art Magnum presents its upcoming solo exhibition, “Touchable Emotions” by G. Reghu, from January 7 to February 15, 2025. Curated by the esteemed Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, this showcase celebrates the profound artistry and transformative journey of G. Reghu, one of India’s most revered sculptors.

Born in 1959 in Kilimanoor, Kerala, G. Reghu’s artistry is deeply rooted in his homeland’s cultural and rural traditions. From his initial focus on stone sculpture to his evolution into terracotta and ceramic forms, Reghu’s work is a testament to his commitment to indigenous materials and human emotions. His collaborations with visionary architects Elizabeth and Laurie Baker, as well as mentorship from J. Swaminathan, profoundly influenced his creative philosophy. Over the years, Reghu has mastered techniques such as hollow modeling, slabbing, folding, coiling, and pinching, creating pieces that merge the utilitarian essence of pottery with the intimate contours of human forms.

About the Exhibition

Spanning decades of artistic exploration, the exhibition highlights key works that resonate with social commentary and emotional depth. Each piece on display is meticulously crafted, reflecting the artist’s mastery of indigenous techniques and his profound connection to clay as a medium. Visitors will encounter vibrant colors and forms inspired by ancient tribal art and the timeless aesthetics of the Indus Valley and Harappan civilizations.

The exhibition aims to create an immersive experience for audiences, inviting them to reflect on the shared essence of human emotions and the cultural legacy of terracotta art. Curator Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya’s vision emphasizes the interplay of heritage and modernity, creating a narrative that celebrates both the artist’s roots and his innovative approach to the medium.
