Kolkata, 6th January 2024: Marking a remarkable 65-year journey of pioneering innovation and societal contributions, NIPHA Group, an Indian engineering and manufacturing leader, celebrated its anniversary with the launch of Grihasth Rishi, a biography honouring its legendary Chairman Emeritus, Late Shri G. D. Shah. Held in Kolkata, the event was attended by prominent industry leaders, including Shri R. S. Goenka, Founder & Non-Executive Chairman, Emami Group; Shri Saroj Kumar Poddar, Chairman, Adventz Group; Shri Raj Anand, Executive Chairman, of Southern States LLC; and Shri Satya Narayan Sharma, Former Minister, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Shri M. C. Shah, Chairman, NIPHA, led the celebrations, which concluded with a riveting Sarod performance by Padma Vibhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Saheb and his family, paying a soulful tribute to the company’s legacy.
Founded in 1960, NIPHA has played a pivotal role in India’s industrial revolution, evolving from a manufacturer of jute machinery components to offering a diverse range of products, including ferrous and non-ferrous castings, forged and hot-formed components, precision-machined components and gearboxes. The company also specializes in sub-assemblies and equipment tailored specifically for the agricultural and jute industries. NIPHA’s foray into microfinance with Sarwadi Finance and strategic investments in platforms like NowPurchase have solidified its presence in West Bengal. The company exports products to over 30 countries worldwide.
At the event, NIPHA announced its acquisition of a U.S.-based company to bolster its nearshore presence in its largest market and leverage the prevailing China +1 strategy. Additionally, NIPHA revealed plans for two Greenfield projects in Dankuni (1,50,000 sq ft) and Chandannagar (1,35,000 sq ft), along with a Brownfield expansion in Falta (50,000 sq ft), further demonstrating its commitment to the region and potential job creation. As a proud global company with deep roots in Bengal, NIPHA is focused on enhancing its diverse engineering capabilities while contributing to local employment.
NIPHA is leading the modernization of jute mills in West Bengal, having upgraded over 70% of the weaving machines in the area. It has also become the largest manufacturer of agricultural machinery in West Bengal, earning the trust of local farmers.
NIPHA Group commemorated its 65th anniversary by releasing a biography on Late Shri G. D. Shah, Chairman Emeritus, NIPHA. Grihastha Rishi illustrates Shri G. D. Shah’s profound influence on India’s engineering sector and his role as a global leader from Bengal. As Chairman of the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC India) and Bharat Chamber of Commerce and a director in leading financial institutions, Shah’s contributions extended far beyond business, influencing education, industry policy and community welfare.
The evening’s highlight was a spellbinding Sarod recital by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Saheb, joined by his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, and grandsons Abeer and Zohaan Ali Bangash. The performance resonated with the values of heritage, collaboration and excellence that define NIPHA’s 65-year journey.
