PMI Secures Growth with AI Course to Bridge Skill Gaps in Infrastructure

business Apr 4, 2025

April 04th , 2025: Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading professional association for project management, has announced the launch of its new course titled ‘AI in Infrastructure and Construction Projects’ in India. This initiative aims to equip project managers with the skills and knowledge necessary to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and address the growing demands of India’s rapidly expanding infrastructure sector.

India’s construction sector is experiencing rapid expansion, driven by ambitious infrastructure initiatives and a thriving economy. However, this growth is challenged by a significant skills gap and a slow pace of digital adoption. Industry survey reports [1]reveal that the industry struggles with an inadequate supply of skilled labor and a lag in digitizing operations. Research also finds the potential for construction firms to increase productivity by up to 50% through real-time data analysis. This insight is prompting a shift, with construction companies increasingly turning to AI and machine learning to optimize the planning and allocation of labor and machinery across diverse projects. By embracing these technologies, companies aim to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve project outcomes, ultimately contributing to the sustainable growth of India’s infrastructure landscape.

The new AI course by PMI directly addresses this need, equipping project managers with the tools to navigate this technological transformation. The course is designed to bridge this gap by providing project managers with practical training on how to apply AI tools and techniques to various aspects of construction projects. Participants in this course will explore compelling case studies from leading organizations, demonstrating how AI is transforming infrastructure and construction projects by enhancing safety protocols, improving operational efficiency, accelerating project timelines, and ensuring higher quality outcomes. These real-world examples showcase the tangible and transformative power of AI adoption in the industry.

With a duration of 3 hours, the ‘AI in Infrastructure and Construction Projects’ course is accessible to PMI® members at no cost, while non-members can access them for a nominal fee. PMI certification holders will also earn 3 PDUs upon completion, making this course an essential investment for advancing their careers.

“As India continues its rapid growth and infrastructure development, leveraging AI will be instrumental in meeting the demands of our expanding economy and ensuring sustainable progress,” said Amit Goyal, Managing Director South Asia, Project Management Institute (PMI). “At PMI, we aim to transform project management practices, drive unparalleled efficiency, and foster groundbreaking innovation through our new AI course. We believe this initiative will empower project managers with sophisticated AI skills to streamline operations, mitigate delays, and enhance data accuracy. This course represents a pivotal step towards a more organized, efficient, and technologically advanced approach to managing large-scale projects in India.”

Building upon its commitment to advancing the profession’s proficiency with AI, PMI is also offering a free introductory course to the Cognitive Project Management in AI (CPMAI)™ methodology. CPMAI™ is the industry’s leading AI framework for successfully managing and running AI projects. The three-hour course explores the common reasons for AI project failure, overviews the six phases of the CPMAI methodology for successfully managing AI and machine learning projects, and how the methodology’s best practices can be applied to mitigate risks and improve project outcomes.
