Education Jan 20, 2022

20th January 2022: Protium, a pre-eminent engineering-led, risk-focused lending platform, has joined hands for providing more effective financial management at schools at the ‘EdEx School Leadership Summit 2021’ organised by Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) on December 26-27, 2021, at Hitex Exhibition Center, Hyderabad. Protium Sakshara, which lends to edupreneurs, educational institutions, and MSME, has also proposed to help schools across the country with working capital, upgrading sports facilities, infrastructure development, and more.

This was the first physical event in South-west India by TRSMA since the pandemic started. The educational leadership conclave was focused on Government Policy and TRSMA’s initiatives on helping schools upgrade. The Chief Guest was Hon’ble Shri B. Vinod Kumar, Vice Chairman, Planning Commission, Govt. of Telangana. Other Eminent Guests from the Education Fraternity were also present at the event.

Dhruv Suri, Managing Director, Protium, said, “The pandemic has affected a huge proportion of Indian school-going children across states, class, caste, gender, religion and region, leading to a sharp rise in learning inequality among children. Furthermore, schools responsible for the education of these students are going through a state of economic uncertainty. We at Protium want to provide such schools with the opportunity and time to rebuild and restructure to ensure that no child is left behind in terms of learning.”

In India, the closure of 1.5 million schools due to the pandemic and lockdowns in 2020 has impacted 247 million children enrolled in elementary and secondary schools (UNICEF, 2021). Protium Sakshara has offered to provide lending solutions to schools that urgently need an infrastructure overhaul as they start to reopen and have to adapt to the new hybrid learning model.

“COVID-19 has been a catastrophe not just in terms of human lives but also in the way it has impacted other spheres of human life. Education is one such sphere where the pandemic has caused utter chaos, leading to the near-total closures of schools, universities and colleges. Two years after the pandemic began, many of these schools that lost their revenue streams due to lower fee collections and existing financial commitments are still teetering on edge, and many are in need of infrastructure revamp to accommodate the hybrid learning models. There is an urgent need to help these schools get back on their feet, and Protium can make a considerable difference. By lending to schools, you give them a chance to create a real impact in the lives of bright, young minds of tomorrow,” said Mr Yadagiri Shekhar Rao, State President, TRSMA.
