Jairangam Fringes Brings Powerful Theatre Performances to Delhi on January 6–7

news Jan 5, 2026

New Delhi, Jan 05: Jairangam Fringes, a platform dedicated to showcasing compelling contemporary theatre and performance narratives, is set to arrive in the capital with a two-day showcase at Triveni Kala Sangram, New Delhi, on January 6 and 7, 2026. The event is being presented in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and entry to all performances will be free on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Delhi edition of Jairangam Fringes will feature two critically acclaimed performances that foreground marginal voices, lived realities, and socially relevant themes through theatre and movement.

The festival opens on January 6, 2026, with Naachni, a powerful solo performance written by noted theatre practitioner Bhanu Bharti, directed by Madhur, and performed by Dr. Rakhi Dubey. The 70-minute Hindi production explores questions of gender, power, exploitation, and artistic identity, drawing from lived experiences and oral histories to reflect on the complex world of women performers navigating tradition and patriarchy.

On January 7, 2026, audiences will witness Kashida Phool: Journeying with the Cross Dancers of Rajasthan, a 45-minute Hindi performance facilitated and directed by Shreeya Kishanpuriya, Kamakshi Saxena, and Supriya, and performed by Chaina Meena and Rakesh Meena. Rooted in movement and storytelling, the performance traces the lives, struggles, and resilience of cross dancers from Rajasthan, offering a rare and intimate glimpse into their artistic and social journeys.

Speaking on the Delhi showcase, the organisers said that Jairangam Fringes aims to create spaces for narratives that are often absent from mainstream cultural platforms.

“These performances are not only artistic expressions but also important social documents that invite dialogue, reflection, and empathy,” they said.

Jairangam Fringes has emerged as an important platform for independent theatre-makers, bringing together voices from across regions and disciplines. The Delhi showcase continues this vision by connecting performers, practitioners, and audiences through meaningful cultural engagement.
