Bhubaneswar, Aug. 5 (UDN): In a significant move aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare ecosystem, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department on Tuesday signed 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading healthcare institutions and organisations. The agreements are expected to improve trauma care, medical education, diagnostic infrastructure, public health services and the integration of traditional Indian systems of medicine across the state.

Describing the occasion as a landmark step for Odisha’s healthcare sector, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the collaborations would help modernise healthcare delivery while creating new opportunities for medical education, research and skill development.
Focus on Trauma Care
Among the key initiatives is a partnership with the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) to strengthen trauma care services. The collaboration aims to combine evidence-based traditional Indian medicine with modern clinical practices to improve emergency treatment, rehabilitation and patient outcomes.
Strengthening AYUSH and Indian Knowledge System
The state government has also prioritised the promotion of AYUSH and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Through the MoU with AIIA, Odisha plans to enhance academic programmes, professional training and clinical services in Ayurveda and other traditional healthcare disciplines, expanding access to quality AYUSH care across the state.
Modernisation of Diagnostic Infrastructure
As part of the agreements, laboratories at District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs) and Sub-Divisional Hospitals (SDHs) will be upgraded with improved diagnostic facilities. The initiative is expected to enhance the accuracy and speed of disease detection, enabling better patient care, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
Medical Education and Skill Development
The MoUs also place strong emphasis on strengthening medical education and institutional capacity. The partnerships will facilitate faculty development, collaborative research, specialised training programmes and skill enhancement for healthcare professionals, helping improve the quality of medical education and healthcare services in Odisha.
Better Support for Patients’ Families
In a patient-centric initiative, the Adani Group has signed an agreement with the state government to construct dedicated rest houses for attendants and caregivers at healthcare facilities. The accommodation will provide much-needed support and convenience to families accompanying patients during treatment.
Government’s Vision
Speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony, Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the agreements represent Odisha’s commitment to building a stronger and more accessible healthcare system under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
According to the minister, the 10 MoUs cover multiple aspects of healthcare, including emergency and trauma care, public health infrastructure, medical education, research, diagnostic services, AYUSH integration and patient welfare. He expressed confidence that the partnerships would significantly improve healthcare delivery and strengthen the state’s medical ecosystem in the coming years.
