STL builds an advanced neo-natal care unit to improve the life chances of 3500 newborns per year

13th June 2024: STL, a leading global optical and digital solutions company, in collaboration with the Government Medical College & Hospital in Chatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, unveiled a first-of-its-kind Kangaroo Mother Care Unit (KMC). This neonatal care unit, spread across 8500 sq ft, is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that mothers and babies receive comprehensive and continuous care. Due to its proximity to rural areas, this will cater to the needs of the adjoining talukas in Maharashtra. This unit will use Kangaroo Mother Care practice to emphasise skin-to-skin contact between mother and their premature babies, which in turn will significantly reduce hospitalisation duration and improve neonatal outcomes.

KMC Ward Inauguration - STL (2)

The KMC ward was unveiled by Mr Ankit Agarwal, Managing Director, STL, in the presence of Dr Shivaji Sukre, DEAN – Government Medical College & Hospital, and Dr L.S. Deshmukh – Professor and Head of Neonatology, along with other key personnel. With the infrastructural set-up complete, STL has handed over the ward to the hospital authorities, who will take up all the operational responsibility.

Commenting on this milestone, Anjali Byce, Group Chief Human Resource Officer, STL, said, “The inauguration of the Kangaroo Mother Care ward is a significant step forward in our commitment to mobilising communities in a way that ensures inclusive progress and development. We believe that every child deserves the best neonatal care, which sets the journey towards a longer, healthier life.”

Dr Shivaji Sukre, DEAN—Government Medical College & Hospital, Chatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, expressed his excitement about the launch, “This KMC ward will be a game-changer for neonatal care in the region. The facility will not only improve the survival rates of premature babies but also enhance the quality of care provided to them. We are thankful to STL for their invaluable contribution.”
