Sonam Dubal : Collection Note: “Mapping Memories” 2021-22
Having been through nearly two years of hibernation and isolation there is a deep need for soulful and sustainable collections that are homegrown today. A return to weaves, indigenous designs and textiles make a big comeback, A trend setting statement for the coming years.
A need to go back to old textiles and embroideries that are hand crafted is once more in vogue but with a much more abstract take and much more fluid in style and so ikats and brocades become mainstay in this collection.
Revisiting the familiar and mapping embroideries from the silk route we have once again created a line of jackets, capes, dresses kaftans and brocade shrugs for evening wear recreating Vintage charm for our exhibition at The Beautiful Amethyst store in Chennai and Chintz in Pondicherry in December.
An old world atmosphere and a feeling of festivity that was lost for so long finds its way back with pops of color in between an otherwise stylish shades for evening wear in black, Indigo gold and dull copper and brocades and vintage silks.
Luxe Velvet jackets combined with period embroidered crushed signature dresses and georgette sequined capes all come together bringing in a new refreshing feeling of Hope for a new tomorrow and the coming New Year.

The present collection is a synergy between Fashion and Traditional crafts. The design innovations are thoughtfully worked upon in a contemporary vocabulary yet with a continued engagement with the crafts and rural artisan communities. The range of clothing includes ultra modern pieces like halter jumpsuits, coats, jackets, dresses, skirts, tops, overlays and tunics. In all the whole look encompasses modernity that gracefully embraces traditional crafts such as Bandhani and Kantha. Silhouettes are clean and each individual piece is trans seasonal that can be worn multiple times and in multiple ways too.
