business Jul 30, 2026

Mumbai, July 30: The Association of NSE Members of India commemorated its 31st Foundation Day at the National Stock Exchange, celebrating over three decades of contributing to the evolution of India’s capital markets. The event, held at the NSE Atrium in Mumbai, brought together regulators, exchange leaders, market intermediaries and industry stakeholders to reflect on India’s remarkable capital market journey and reaffirm a shared commitment to shaping its future.

The celebration was graced by Mr. Govindayapalli Ram Mohan Rao, Executive Director, SEBI, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Ashish Kumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, NSE, as the Guest of Honour, and was presided over by Mr. Kamlesh D. Shroff, President, ANMI.

Founded in 1995 with the vision of creating a unified and credible voice for market intermediaries, ANMI has evolved into India’s largest association of capital market intermediaries, with over 800 broker members across the country. Over the past 31 years, the association has worked closely with regulators, exchanges and market participants to support progressive reforms, foster industry dialogue and contribute to the growth of a transparent, resilient and investor-centric securities ecosystem.

Reflecting on its 31-year journey as a catalyst for change, ANMI celebrated the remarkable transformation of India’s capital markets through a compelling “Then and Now” narrative. Since the association’s inception in 1995, the Indian securities market has evolved from an era of physical share certificates to seamless demat holdings; from a market driven largely by cash equities to a vibrant multi-asset ecosystem; from having no equity derivatives to becoming one of the world’s largest derivatives markets; from periodic settlements to globally benchmarked T+1 settlement and the introduction of optional T+0 settlement; and from paper application forms and cheque payments to a seamless digital investing experience enabled by ASBA and UPI.

The next phase of India’s capital market evolution will be shaped by artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, tokenisation, cybersecurity, financial inclusion, and continuous innovation. By contributing to policy landscape,  knowledge exchange, skill enhancement of new technology ANMI will enable brokers to leverage emerging technologies responsibly.

Congratulating ANMI on this milestone, Mr. G Ram Mohan Rao, Executive Director, SEBI, said :

“India’s capital markets have evolved significantly over the past three decades through innovation, reform and collaboration. Continued engagement between regulators and industry will be key to building resilient, efficient and investor-centric markets.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kamlesh D. Shroff, President, ANMI, said:

“Today, as we celebrate ANMI’s 31st Foundation Day, we are not just commemorating the journey of an institution, but celebrating three decades of India’s remarkable capital market transformation. From physical share certificates and open outcry trading to a world-class, technology-driven market ecosystem, ANMI has evolved alongside the industry as a trusted voice for market intermediaries. As we look ahead, we remain committed to working closely with regulators, exchanges and all stakeholders to support innovation, strengthen investor confidence and contribute to building one of the world’s most resilient and progressive capital markets. The future will be shaped by artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, tokenisation, cybersecurity, financial inclusion, and continued innovation.”
