Mumbai, 04th November 2026: Comet introduces its latest sneaker collection, drawing on the centuries-old craft of Ajrakh, a traditional hand-block-printing technique originating from Ajrakhpur, Gujarat. Made using original Ajrakh fabric rather than digitally reproduced prints, the collection is presented in three colourways: Cream, Red and Black.
Taking a material-first approach to design, Comet began with the fabric rather than the silhouette. The scale of the motifs, the intricacy of the patterns and the fabric’s natural colour palette informed the sneaker‘s design and construction, allowing the textile to define the character of the finished product.
Each pair features original Ajrakh fabric, hand-block-printed in Ajrakhpur through a meticulous process involving multiple layers of hand-applied printing. Taking up to three weeks per cloth, the process relies on traditional techniques and colours derived from materials including madder root, rusted iron, lime and gum. The result is a textile with a depth and individuality that digital printing cannot replicate.
To understand the craft at its source, the Comet team travelled to Ajrakhpur, spending time with the artisans and experiencing the process behind the fabric. The collection’s campaign was subsequently photographed in Gujarat’s white desert of Kutch, where the expansive landscape offers a striking contrast to the intricate patterns and colours of the textile.
The collection arrives in three colourways: Cream, a lighter and versatile expression; Red, a bolder statement; and Black, a more understated interpretation. Each brings a distinct character to the sneaker while retaining the visual identity of the original fabric.
With this release, Comet brings an established Indian textile tradition into contemporary sneaker culture.
The Comet Ajrakh collection is available in Cream, Red and Black.
