The event was inaugurated by Yemi Odanye, Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, Rohit Pujari, Minister of Higher Education, Orissa, Arun Lal, Former Indian Cricketer and Cricket Commentator, Dr. Mona Lisa Bal, Chairperson, KiiT International School, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, Transgender Rights Activist and Sukriti Patannaik, National Co-Chair INWEC. Climate Change, Special Education Needs, Gender Bias, and the Future of Sports in India were the four main focuses of Edu-Meet’2022. The Education Summit, instituted by Candid Communication in collaboration with the ‘Association of Leaders in Education, British Council’, ‘BOPTER’ and ‘NASSCOM’, is claimed to be Eastern India’s prominent education summit. The Summit brought together notable names for each of the panels to discuss and address various developmental concepts of the society. The first panel ‘Green Climate and Education – Impacts, Policies & Actions’ addressed the rising concerns about Climate Change. It was chaired by Aditya Pundir (Director, South Asia, The Climate Reality Foundation), Chiranjeet Chatterjee (Program Director, South Asian Ear for Environment- SAFE) and Saikrishna Mohanty (Managing Partner at Solar Infra and EC Head INWEC).

The panel thereafter that was ‘Girls’ Education, Gender Equality and Special Education’ was among the most prolific topics, throwing light on the seriousness of Gender Equality and the need for Inclusive Education. The panel was chaired by Deepa Sundara Ranjan (Assistant Director, Society India EDI Lead, British Council), Dr. Mona Lisa Bal (Chairperson, KiiT International School), Laxmi Narayan Tripathy (Transgender Rights Activist, Bollywood Actress), Merry Barua (Founder Director Action for Autism, National Centre for Autism).

The third session ‘Chak De India’ focused on the core scenario of sports in India and its future. The session was chaired by Arun Lal, Former Indian Cricketer and Cricket Commentator, Prasanta Banerjee veteran Indian Footballer and Hanshi Premjit Sen, Referee and Judge, World Karate Federation.

The fourth session was on the premise of ‘Skilling Indian Youth – Issues and Challenges’ which focused on the importance of skill-oriented programs to recognize an individual’s potential career. The session was chaired by Shri S.M. Ejaz Ahmad (Director, BOPT (ER) (Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Govt. of INDIA), Dr. Sanjay Suar (Principal, KiiT International School).

Shriram Transport Finance Company Secures USD 250 mn Long-Term Funding from DFC

India, June 9, 2022: Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited (STFC) India’s largest commercial vehicle financer and a part of the Shriram Group, secured long-term funding of USD 250 million from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) of the United States of America. The USD 250 million External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) is a fixed-rate 10-year loan under STFC’s Social Finance framework.

The funds raised from DFC, the development finance institution of the United States Government, will enable STFC to provide credit for the purchase of new and used vehicles throughout India. Proceeds from DFC can be used for the following: Vehicle finance for commercial purposes, alternate fuel financing namely through, CNG, LPG and electric vehicles, employment generation through MSME loans, specifically, finance women entrepreneurs, cater to laggard states of the country and empower and promote the social and economic status of the underserved communities in India.

Besides the DFC loan, STFC has also successfully raised USD 475 million through a 144A Bond from the international market during the start of 2022, thereby continuing to diversify its funding profile.

NHAI’s escrow guidelines a huge positive for BOT road projects: Infomerics Ratings

Mumbai, June 2022: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recently issued a guideline on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to monitor the escrow defaults and take appropriate action to safeguard the NHAI interest in the arbitration matters on claims made by the concessionaire.

Infomerics Ratings believes that this is a positive development from a credit risk perspective while analyzing BOT road project companies. It is observed that at times the waterfall mechanism where escrow account has been in place between the NHAI, the concessionaire & the lender, is not followed. Adherence to water fall escrow arrangement is the basic premise while assigning ratings to such projects.

The applicability of the new SOP to all BOT projects, whether toll or annuity where escrow mechanism is in place, has been mandated to with ensure that all project cash flows (inflows & outflows) must be necessarily routed through the escrow accounts and funds shall be applied in the waterfall of priorities set forth in the concession agreement. Any deviation by the escrow lender will be a breach of trust to be dealt in accordance with the provisions of concession agreement and the lender shall be liable for damages. This new guideline reinforces the strength a waterfall mechanism brings and protects both NHAI and the lender to project.

Says Amod Khanorkar, Chief Rating Officer of Infomerics Ratings, ‘project financed infrastructure assets have a single line income. Disciplined usage of cash inflow is extremely crucial for taking care of all the stakeholders involved. When someone ranking junior in priority of payment gets paid bypassing the cash flow seniority, it can lead to credit events which cannot be anticipated. Making the escrow banker responsible for adhering to escrow arrangement, failing which penalties may be imposed will ensure that such transgressions do not happen. This is a positive development from a credit rating perspective and if the authorities in other sectors such as power follow it too, it will be a welcome step’.
