Chennai, Oct 27: Coromandel International Limited, one of India’s agri-solutions providers, has strengthened school infrastructure across two government schools in Ennore, Tamil Nadu, through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, CoroVidya. The initiatives include a new physics laboratory and a smart learning facility at Kathivakkam Government Higher Secondary School and a dedicated girls’ toilet block at Government High School, Annai Sivagami Nagar.

The facilities were inaugurated by Ms. S. Malathi Helen, IAS, District Collector, Chennai, Mr. Senthil Kumar N, MLA, Tiruvottiyur Constituency, Mr. Arun Leslie George, President & CHRO, Coromandel International, Mr Jayagopal Chathur, Head – CSR, Mr Vetrivel, Head – Manufacturing, in the presence of school authorities, senior management from Coromandel International and members of the local community.

At Kathivakkam Government Higher Secondary School, Coromandel has established a well-equipped physics laboratory with essential apparatus and learning resources to provide students with greater opportunities for practical experimentation and hands-on learning. The school, which serves a large student community including children from nearby fishing and economically weaker communities, had limited laboratory infrastructure. The new smart learning facility further complements the intervention by introducing digital tools and technology-enabled teaching methods to make classroom learning more interactive. The upgraded facilities are expected to benefit approximately 300 students annually and support greater interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.

At Government High School, AS Nagar, Coromandel has constructed a dedicated girls’ toilet block to address the school’s existing sanitation infrastructure gap. The school has 464 students, including 238 girls and 226 boys. The new facility provides additional and more accessible sanitation facilities for girl students, with a focus on hygiene, privacy and functionality.

Speaking on the initiatives, Arun Leslie George, President and CHRO, Coromandel International, said,

“Our approach to community development is centred on understanding local needs and creating interventions that can make a practical difference. In schools, this means supporting both access to better learning resources and the basic infrastructure that enables students to learn in a safe and comfortable environment. Through CoroVidya, the new facilities at Kathivakkam Government Higher Secondary School and AS Nagar Government High School address these needs while creating a more supportive environment for students to learn and grow.”

The initiatives are part of Coromandel International’s continued efforts to support communities surrounding its operations. Through CoroVidya, the company focuses on strengthening educational infrastructure and addressing critical needs that contribute to a supportive learning environment for children and young people.
