Chennai, Aug 26: Prasad Corporation, a global leader in film preservation, restoration and post-production, welcomed Myanmar Ministry of Information, Government of Myanmar delegation to explore collaboration in film preservation, restoration and digitisation, strengthening India–Myanmar cooperation in safeguarding cinematic heritage.
A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Information, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, led by H.E. Mr. Htein Linn, Union Minister for Information, visited Prasad Corporation’s Chennai facility as part of an India study tour focused on film restoration and digitisation. The delegation is visiting Chennai and Hyderabad from 13–18 August 2026.
The visit gave the delegation first-hand exposure to Prasad Corporation’s specialised infrastructure, technologies and expertise in film preservation, restoration and digitisation, while opening opportunities to explore the preservation of Myanmar’s valuable cinematic heritage.
Myanmar has a significant archive of classic and historic films as well as newsreels that document the country’s cultural, social and historical journey. Many such legacy film materials are vulnerable to deterioration over time, making preservation and digitisation critical to ensuring that these records remain accessible to future generations. Myanmar has already initiated efforts to clean, scan and digitally preserve film materials within its National Film Archive and MRTV, and is exploring advanced restoration and preservation capabilities to further strengthen these efforts.
Against this backdrop, the proposed visit will explore the application of advanced film scanning, digital restoration, preservation and archival technologies to help safeguard Myanmar’s cinematic and audiovisual heritage. The engagement will also provide an opportunity for knowledge exchange and technical learning, with a focus on establishing sustainable approaches to the long-term preservation of historic film and newsreel collections.
The Myanmar Ministry of Information has expressed interest in learning from established Indian facilities, including Prasad Corporation and its partners on the preservation and restoration of its archival collections.
