With the theme being ‘Only One Earth’ for this year’s World Environment Day, there is a focus on the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature, and making an effort to shift to a greener lifestyle through individual choices.

Through new and existing product offerings the brand works to make choices that benefit the customer, employees and planet. In 2021, the brand announced a new impact strategy swapping out their original One for One® shoe giving model with a commitment to give at least one-third of annual net profits to grassroots goods working with passionate, informed leaders within the communities that they serve.
The Select Alp styles have earth-friendly elements like uppers crafted in heritage canvas or recycled cotton canvas, and insoles with 50% eco content. TOMS has earth-friendly packaging with carton boxes/paper bags made from recycled paper and filling, making it a great gift for earth-conscious consumers. TOMS custom insole are made with 50% eco-content, which consumes less virgin resources and is a repurposed waste. The brand is a member of Leather Working Group since 2020, in this partnership TOMS sources 100% of its leather from gold and silver rated LWG leather manufacturers. Additionally, TOMS commitment to Canopy, a non-profit organization that is focused on preserving ancient and endangered forests is a standard that the brand continues to follow and source all wood-based materials from sustainably managed forests.
TOMS is a certified B Corp which means that the brand meets the highest standard of social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability. TOMS was first certified in 2018 and in 2020, the brand recertified and received a score of 121.5, which is 25.2 points higher than its original score (96.3). Community is the brand’s strongest category, where the social impact happens and the biggest contributor to the score increase in 2020 was the progress made through environmental efforts. Since its founding, TOMS has impacted over 100 million lives by giving shoes, sight, safe water and impact grants, and learning and listening along the way.
