Blue Dart Expands EV Fleet for a Greener Future on World Environment Day

New Delhi, 30 May 2024: In a strategic move towards fostering sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint, Blue Dart, South Asia’s leading courier and integrated express package distribution company, unveiled an expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) fleet, now boasting over 480 e-vehicles (2,3 &4 wheelers combined). The integration of EVs into Blue Dart’s fleet is poised to yield substantial environmental benefits, with an estimated reduction of 15.05 tonnes of CO2 emissions per month. Blue Dart’s proactive participation as a signatory to the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ (CNN) pledge by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) further underscores its commitment to global climate action. The company’s Sustainability Roadmap emphasizes initiatives such as planting over 111,000 trees annually—a measure projected to offset more than 13,320 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually once these trees reach maturity.

On this occasion, Indian Overseas Bank also introduced a new innovative account opening through Tab Banking Services using facial authentication. This service validates the customer’s details by matching them with the biometric information in the UIDAI database.

Earlier IOB launched Account Opening in Tab Banking solutions by validating fingerprint data. The extension to facial recognition authentication aims to alleviate difficulties faced by customers with unclear fingerprints. This innovative process ensures immediate KYC compliance and allows instant opening of Savings Bank Accounts and access to services such as Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, ATM cards, and Cheque books within minutes. These services can be provided at the customer’s doorstep, eliminating the need to visit any branch.

Speaking at the event, MD & CEO Shri Ajay Kumar Srivastava stated that the inauguration of the 50th Regional Office in Tirupati perfectly aligns with IOB’s strategic goals to expand its branch network this fiscal year and deepen its presence in this region. The cultural exchange between societies helps develop affinity and relativity when we revive our unattended heritage.
