Schneider Electric Inaugurates Climate Smart Villages in Jharkhand to Support Rural Communities

Mumbai, July 03, 2024: Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF), a socially committed arm of Schneider Electric in India has inaugurated two Climate Smart Villages in Gumla, District, which is a designated aspirational district of Jharkhand, in collaboration with PRADAN (Professional Assistance for Developed Action), a prominent NGO that works to improve lives of underprivileged rural families. The Climate Smart Village initiative is designed to empower rural India, with a specific emphasis on uplifting tribal farming communities with the use of renewable energy.

Access to essentials like healthcare, education, food security, livelihood opportunities, safety, and clean water is crucial for socio-economic development. Energy is pivotal in enabling access to these necessities. In rural India, many areas still lack reliable electricity access, relying on polluting diesel power, which incurs high costs and environmental hazards. Even in electrified areas, challenges like power limitations and unreliable supply hinder essential services.

Recognizing these challenges, Schneider Electric has developed an innovative, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective “Climate Smart Village Solution”. Schneider Electric through PRADAN implemented the solution in two villages in the Gumla District of Jharkhand to power productive loads such as irrigation pumps, oil expeller, rice huller, groundnut sheller, flour/spice grinding mill, and electric rickshaws. This India for India (i4i) system also supplies reliable power to households, runs streetlights, and meets other community needs ensuring 100% capacity utilization by efficiently directing power to various loads.

The Climate Smart Village Solution in Sehal and Chatti villages features 40 kW and 45 kW solar arrays with innovative IoT-enabled smart power management systems. This system ensures 100% capacity utilization of the solar panels by diverting power to different loads based on demand, benefitting the 110 families in the two villages. These enhancements have also led to new economic opportunities, such as a 2X increase in farmers’ income, reduced migration, and a decrease in carbon emissions by 60,000 kg/year.

As part of their livelihood improvement program in 2019, Schneider Electric and PRADAN have already installed 800+ solar irrigation pumps impacting the lives of 16000+ women farmers.

Speaking on the launch, Deepak Sharma, Zone President- Greater India & MD & CEO, Schneider Electric India, said, “Schneider Electric believes in the crucial role of India’s rural development in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. While significant strides have been made in placing rural India at the forefront of the country’s developmental journey, accelerated access to essential services like healthcare, education, food security, livelihood opportunities, safety, and clean water is vital to creating a real impact. The development in Sehal and Chatti Village as part of the Climate Smart Village program is a testament to Schneider Electric’s dedication to empowering rural communities through renewable energy, advancing a fair and inclusive energy transition, and enabling sustainable access to energy for all.”

Saroj Mahapatra, Executive Director, PRADAN, added, “We take immense pride in this collaboration with Schneider Electric India Foundation to inaugurate the 2 Climate Smart Villages in Jharkhand. Across these 2 villages, communities would be using solar power for Irrigation, Agro-processing, Households, and other community requirements. The success of our joint initiatives has inspired us to continue this partnership in other states, and together, we will make rural India more sustainable and empowered.”

The Climate Smart Village initiative empowers rural communities through renewable energy in three key areas: sustainable agriculture, livelihood opportunities, and household electricity access. Schneider Electric is committed to continuing its efforts to support and uplift India’s rural communities ensuring sustainable and innovative energy solutions are developed & deployed that foster growth for all, thereby making a strong contribution to India’s Viksit Bharat mission.

Chaibasa resident Ankit Prasad, Founder & CEO, Bobble AI, participates in ‘Budget Seminar’; gives important suggestions to promote entrepreneurship in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jan 29, 2022: Ankit Prasad, Founder and CEO of Bobble AI, the world’s first Conversation Media Platform and Chaibasa resident, recently participated in the ‘Budget Seminar’ organized by the Finance Department of Jharkhand Government, in tandem with Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon, Principal Secretary Sukhdev Singh and the Finance Department. In the presence of Principal Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh, several suggestions were made on the issue of promoting entrepreneurship in the state, to create a conducive environment for start-ups in Jharkhand.

The event saw the convergence of several experts from different fields focusing on making the upcoming budget effective and development-oriented. Ankit Prasad offered his inputs from an entrepreneur’s point of view. Educated in Jharkhand’s cities like Chaibasa and Jamshedpur, Ankit’s company Bobble AI is included in the list of the world’s fastest-growing technology companies in India as well as Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Middle East countries, the US and many countries of Europe.

Bobble AI has created several keyboard applications that are currently used by more than 65 million mobile users, competing with the keyboard applications created by Google and Microsoft. At present, the valuation of his company has exceeded Rs. 1200 crores, which is also a matter of pride for Jharkhand.

Participating in the ‘Budget Seminar’, Ankit Prasad gave many important suggestions, whose aim is to develop Jharkhand as a state conducive to entrepreneurship. Talking on the issue of promotion of entrepreneurship and information technology in the state, he said, “There is no dearth of talent in Jharkhand and if a conducive environment is created for start-ups in the state, the day is not far when the cities of Jharkhand also have much greater opportunities. There will be a group of young entrepreneurs whose talent will be recognized by the whole world. But for this, the problems and needs of young entrepreneurs on the ground, such as setting up of expert groups for mentorship, creating a fund with private investors for seed funding, making favorable changes in government rules, laws/guidelines related to company formation and operation, need to be addressed. To encourage various activities at the district level, linking coding with school education on the lines of Goa, for talented youth from the marginalized sections of the society as well as women from the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes. Steps like updating school curriculums, giving opportunities to marginalized groups, providing financial assistance and other necessary facilities will have to be taken. With this, not only will the youth of the state be able to make their dreams come true, but it will also combat the problem of unemployment, which can be very important for the state’s economy in the future.”

The Finance Department, Government of Jharkhand organized the program in association with the Indian Institute of Management Ranchi, which is a new initiative in itself and is expected to help in making the policies and budget provisions of the government more effective. During this, Ankit Prasad submitted a list of his suggestions related to the development of start-ups in Jharkhand to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who assured that the state government would definitely take necessary steps in this direction so that the youth of Jharkhand would not have to migrate to other states to achieve their dreams. It is believed that the state government can make some big announcements in this direction in the upcoming budget.

MVS Engineering joins forces with Tata Steel Foundation to deliver onsite oxygen generation plants for hospitals in Odisha and Jharkhand

In a significant boost to the Covid fightback as also respiratory and cardio-vascular care in the underprivileged regions of Odisha and Jharkhand, MVS Engineering has joined forces with Tata Steel Foundation. Under the tie-up, India’s leading onsite oxygen generation solutions provider has set up onsite oxygen generation plants for eleven hospitals covered by Tata Steel Foundation’s CSR initiative.

With a capacity of 50 Nm3/ hr or 833 LPM each, the installations would make medical oxygen available in-house to these hospitals. And each plant will serve nearly 160-170 beds. Of the eleven hospitals, eight are located in Odisha and three in Jharkhand. While both private and government-owned hospitals have been benefited in Odisha, the three hospitals to benefit in Jharkhand are Tata Group-owned.

The names of the eight hospitals in Odisha are as follows: Fakir Mohan Medical College & Hospital, Balasore; Department of Health, Buddha Vihar, Bhadrak; Department of Health (DHH), Govt office Marwari para Jharsuguda, Jharsuguda; Department of Health (DHH) Sonepur, Subarnpur; Rourkela Govt. Hospital, Rourkela; Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (SVPPGIP), Cuttack; Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College & Hospital, Berhampur, Ganjam; and Tata Steel Hospital, Joda, Kendujhar. The following hospitals in Jharkhand have been covered under this initiative: Tata Central Hospital, Ramgarh; Tata Central Hospital, Jamadoba, Dhanbad; and Tata Steel Hospital, Noamundi, West Singbhum.

“We are indeed delighted to have partnered with Tata Steel Foundation and established onsite oxygen generation plants in these hospitals in the two states. With these installations, the people in this relatively underprivileged and previously underserved region would get timely access to what is a truly lifesaving commodity, medical oxygen. During the devastating second wave, since liquid oxygen cylinders and tanks were found wanting in terms of availability as well as timely delivery, we have all been witness to nearly country-wide scenes where lack of timely supplies of oxygen or disruption in supplies had led to tragic and unforgettable consequences for people.

With the setting up of these onsite generation plants, we sincerely hope that the chances of a repeat of such tragedies in these places would be vastly reduced while improving upon the delivery of respiratory and cardiovascular care to patients. On the other hand, in light of the successful implementation of this project, we also look forward to forging many more such partnerships with Tata Steel Foundation in the coming future, said Siddharth Rastogi, Executive Director at MVS Engineering Pvt Ltd.

“When we decided to scout for a partner for this CSR initiative, given the need of the times and the sensitivity of the project, we had to be very careful with respect to selection of the implementation partner. However, MVS Engineering’s longstanding experience and track record in this field had made it easy for us to arrive at a decision. We are particularly pleased with the way the whole project was executed. As originally scheduled and quite in time, the plants were up and running at each of these hospitals. In addition, the post-implementation maintenance and service support has also been excellent,” said Mr Sourav Roy, Chief, Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel Foundation.
