Swiggy launches ‘Swiggy Serves’ to address food wastage and hunger

January 10, 2025: Swiggy, India’s pioneering on-demand convenience platform, today launches “Swiggy Serves”, a flagship program aimed at minimizing waste across its value chain and addressing hunger. As part of this campaign, Swiggy announced its inaugural partnership with the Robin Hood Army (RHA), a volunteer-driven organization. Together, Swiggy and RHA aim to create a meaningful impact by redistributing surplus food from Swiggy’s restaurant partners to underserved communities. Through this collaboration, the two organizations have set an ambitious goal of providing 50 million meals by 2030, by leveraging technology to reimagine food redistribution.

The pilot phase of the Swiggy Serves-RHA partnership has already delivered encouraging results. Over 2,000 meals have been redistributed across 33 cities, with more than 126 restaurant partners joining the initiative. This program aligns with Swiggy’s vision to transform surplus food into a resource to combat hunger while reducing food waste.

Brands like Bikkgane Biryani, Biryani by the Kilo, Dana Choga, Vardhas, Charcoal Eats – Biryani & Beyond, Dabba Garam, House of Biryani, B.Tech Momos Wala, Samosa Singh, Babai Tiffins, Dosa Anna, Urban Tandoor, have signed up to be a part of the Swiggy Serves- RHA initiative.

The Robin Hood Army (RHA) is a volunteer-based, zero-funds organization with thousands of young professionals, retired folks, homemakers, college students as volunteers. These volunteers, called Robins, collect surplus food from restaurants/weddings/events and distribute it to the less fortunate. In ten years, RHA has served over 153 million meals across 406 cities globally. Present in 13 countries, they are a family of 260,000+ registered Robins all working towards zero hunger with zero funds approach.

Speaking at the launch, Rohit Kapoor, CEO, of Swiggy Food Marketplace shared, “At Swiggy, we’ve always seen ourselves as experts in logistics and consumer experience. With ‘Swiggy Serves,’ we are leveraging our strengths and privilege to address a larger societal need and tackle the issues of food wastage and hunger. We are excited to partner with RHA to redistribute surplus food from our restaurant partners to those in need. Currently, we are live in 33 cities and we plan to take this initiative to more cities. This isn’t just about reducing waste, it’s about creating a meaningful impact, ensuring that no meal goes wasted.”

On their partnership with Swiggy, Neel Ghose, Co-Founder, Robin Hood Army shared, “Robin Hood Army is thrilled to come together with Swiggy for this shared mission of reducing hunger. Restaurant partners can join Swiggy Serves by filling out a form on the Swiggy Owner app, indicating their willingness to donate surplus or fresh food. Once onboarded, RHA will add these restaurant partners to dedicated WhatsApp groups for seamless communication and coordination. RHA volunteers will be responsible for picking up surplus food from these partners and ensuring it is distributed to communities in need.

India has nearly 195 million undernourished people, one-fourth of the undernourished population of the world, as per the United Nations. In 2024, India’s Global Hunger Index (GHI) score was 27.3, citing hunger as a serious problem. Also, India ranked 105 out of 127 countries in the 2024 GHI. As per United Nations, India wastes 55 kg of food per head, every year.

Swiggy Partners with Gurugram Traffic Police for Road Safety and Traffic Awareness Workshop

Gurgaon April 4, 2024 – Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform has partnered with the Gurugram Traffic Police to conduct a road safety and traffic awareness workshop for delivery partners in Gurugram under the ambit of Delivering Safely, its road safety charter.

The programme was conducted in the presence of SH Virendra Vij, IPS Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police to educate and empower over 100 delivery partners in the NCR regarding road safety and accident prevention practices. Participants also received training on crucial aspects from SH Sukhbir Singh, HPS-ACP Traffic Police and ASI Rajesh on traffic rules, helmet usage, case studies, consequences of reckless driving, and parking etiquette.

This was followed by a helmet distribution session and a vibrant roadshow by Swiggy’s delivery partner fleet, to showcase Swiggy’s commitment to promoting responsible driving practices.

“Road accidents, and resultant fatalities and injuries are a big scourge for India. Every year these cost the Indian economy 4-5 per cent of the GDP. Most of the victims are pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists, with many of them in their prime working age. Under the charter of Delivering Safely, Swiggy is committed to the welfare of its delivery partners by conducting regular road safety awareness in association with police authorities. We hope to improve traffic sensitisation to delivery partners and to improve their safety,” said a Swiggy spokesperson.

Over the years, Swiggy has conducted drives in different cities across India in its commitment to enabling a safe working environment for its delivery fleet. All delivery partners at Swiggy are provided with insurance that protects them on the road.

Last year, in an industry-first initiative, Swiggy partnered with Dial 4242 to provide on-demand, free, and fast ambulance services to its delivery partners. Swiggy also has Emergency Support Services (ESS), which encompasses various options to cater to the needs of delivery partners during an emergency or mishap on the road. The ESS includes 24*7 hotline numbers, emergency cards for delivery partners, and a direct link to the local police and ambulance service via an SOS button on the delivery partner app.

Swiggy Launches ‘She The Change’, An Initiative To Recognise And Celebrate Women Entrepreneurship

India, 28th March 2024: In a tribute to India’s vibrant spirit of women entrepreneurship and their impact on the economic landscape, Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, launched a new initiative titled “She The Change- From Vision to Venture” today. Inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman ji, the initiative by Swiggy underscores the contribution of food delivery platforms in fostering and stimulating women’s entrepreneurship in the country.

Commemorating nearly a decade of working with women entrepreneurs, Swiggy is shining the spotlight on their journey ‘from vision to venture’ for both budding and established women entrepreneurs in the Food & Beverage (F&B) industry. The launch event served as a platform for accomplished women entrepreneurs in F&B from across India, joined by distinguished figures from economics and academia, and Swiggy’s leadership including Sriharsha Majety, Group CEO, Swiggy and Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Food Marketplace, Swiggy.

Swiggy has more than 50,000 women-run restaurants on its platform. It is estimated that these entrepreneurs are generating approximately three hundred thousand jobs, as each restaurant employs an average of six direct employees. Swiggy believes that this is merely the beginning of their contribution to the food and beverage sector, which accounts for around three per cent of the country’s GDP.

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs commended Swiggy’s role in encouraging and recognising the performance of women-led businesses, a move emphasizing the Honourable Prime Minister’s endorsement of women’s inclusion in the workforce, encapsulated in his vision of ‘Nari Shakti,’.

Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform has rolled out three new benefits to its Swiggy Onemembership program, unlocking new levels of convenience for consumers. The program now offers users unlimited free deliveries on food delivery from ALL restaurants as far as 10 kms, and for orders starting at Rs. 149 only. On Swiggy Instamart, members can save more with exclusive offers on 1,000+ popular products in categories ranging from daily essentials, fruits and vegetables, baby products, personal care, home utilities, cleaning essentials, and more.

 

Swiggy One is the country’s only membership program offering benefits across food, grocery, and pick up and drop services. At a special price of Rs. 899 for 12 months and Rs. 299 for 3 months, members can easily recover their subscription cost by placing an average of just three orders a month across food or grocery.
